Lab experience

During the last few years, Eivind has worked intensively with lab work. Methods for identifying fish otoliths, age dating of fish scales, stable isotope analysis and especially DNA-related work, with the main focus upon metabarcoding.

With his work with metabarcoding, Eivind has developed methods to identify organisms that the top predator of the coastal ecosystem, harbour seal, has utilised. This includes working with the universal mitochondrial primers and more specific primers based on the 18s and 12s rRNA region. This allowed Eivind to get a high resolution of the main diet of harbour seals which is fish but also detect DNA from secondary consumption as zoo- and phytoplankton, which allows for a detailed understanding of how the coastal ecosystem is structured compared to traditional methods.

Field experience

Eivind has extensive experience working as an avid hunter and fisherman in rugged terrain and on the water. During his years at UiO, he has contributed to several research projects. The list of places Eivind has conducted fieldwork includes Finse, Finnmark w/ Iškoras. Oslo-area, Svalbard and the long-term ecological monitoring station Langtjern.

During his days in the field, Eivind has gained experience in conduction vegetation analysis, eDNA sampling, Stable isotope analysis, water quality, polar bear guard, sediment sampling and biodiversity analysis.
In addition, Eivind has a driver's licence class B, a boat license and experience with operating snow scooters in Svalbard.
